Layers of Fear is a psychological horror adventure game from 2016, developed by Bloober Team and published primarily by Bloober Team on most platforms, with Aspyr handling only the macOS and Linux versions. It launched worldwide in February 2016 for Linux, Microsoft Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The player controls a mentally disturbed painter navigating a Victorian mansion, trying to finish his magnum opus while uncovering his past. The first-person gameplay focuses on story, exploration, and puzzle-solving. An add-on called Layers of Fear: Inheritance came out on August 2, 2016, where the player takes on the role of the Painter's daughter, revisiting her old home and reliving trauma. A definitive Nintendo Switch port, Layers of Fear: Legacy, released on February 21, 2018, adding the Inheritance DLC along with Joy-Con, touchscreen, and HD Rumble support. Limited Run Games published a physical version for Switch and PlayStation 4 in North America starting October 2018. A sequel, Layers of Fear 2, was announced in October 2018 and released on May 29, 2019. A remake combining both games, also called Layers of Fear, launched on June 15, 2023.
